If you are NOT plugged into a LocoNet port
1. Use the 4 rotary address selector knobs on your UT4 to dial up the 2 or 4 digit address of the locomotive you want to run. To enter a 2-digit addresses, set the first two selector knobs to 0 and enter the two digit address on the 2 address selector knobs on the right hand side of the throttle (for example 0025).
2. Plug the UT4 into any LocoNet port and automatic selection occurs.
3. A Green Status light confirms that selection has been done successfully - You’re off and running!
4. A Red Status light means the loco is already selected by another throttle. You can "steal" the locomotive and run it on your UT4 or you can choose a different locomotive that is available to run. See UT4-Steal a Loco Article.

3. Look for the Green Status light confirming your locomotive selection. If the Status light is Red, that means you will either need to steal the loco or select a different one to run.
What will happen to your loco's speed and direction after you select the address on your UT4
If the selected loco is already moving, then the loco’s speed will slowly change to match the current throttle and direction switch settings on the UT4 you are using. This means that if you selected a train that’s moving forward at 25% speed and the UT4 throttle is set to zero speed when selection occurs, the train will slowly (and automatically) come to a stop. Likewise, if your UT4 is set to reverse direction and the loco is running in the forward direction, it will slow down and change direction to match the UT4.
UT4 supports locomotive addresses 00-9983. Address 00 is used to run locomotives that are not equipped with decoders and the rest are used for decoder equipped locomotives.
